Region’s Cyclists Competing in USQ Ride the Range Sunday May 15

The Toowoomba Range is the domain of cyclists today, Sunday 15 May for the inaugural USQ Ride the Range event. Approximately 250 riders are tackling the course which started in Toowoomba at Picnic Point, progresses along to Flagstone Creek road, through the Lockyer Valley and Gatton districts before the cyclists return to Picnic Point via the Toowoomba Range. Professor Bill Lovegrove, Vice-Chancellor and President of USQ is proud to support the event and wishes the 25 strong USQ team well in the event. “The event supports the Prostate Cancer Association of Australia and has been organised through the Rotary Club of Toowoomba,” Professor Lovegrove said. “Many of the event organisers are members of USQ Corporate Club and we all hope the Challenge will grow into a major tourism event over the years to come.” The riders have two ride options, a 60km option where they ride to Helidon, or a 100km ride to Gatton and back. Easter Vintage Festival at Highfields Pioneer Village

Coal Mine Action Group Community Information Evening April 8th

This evening is  organised by the Toowoomba Coal Mine Action Group to up-date residents about the status of mining exploration across outer suburbs of Toowoomba and to share information regarding our group’s progress since our original community meeting. Speakers will share information regarding the  group’s plans for future action. Speakers approached to address the group include: politicians, mining reps, Qld Govt Mining Registrar, and local residents . John Gordon (Musician) will perform his mining ballad that recently received Australia-wide media attention following it’s ban from ABC radio despite other states giving it air-time. Pittsworth Health Expo Delivers Many and Varied Health Messages

Everything from healthy school lunches to home safety will be covered in the Pittsworth Health and Wellbeing Expo on April 14 from 9am to 4pm at the Pittsworth Town Hall. There will be a wide range of displays at the expo including health service providers, sports, craft and beauty services. Community and Health Promotion Nurse Helen Blanch said the Millmerran Health Service would host the biennial event. “We will have a vast range of interactive displays, some entertainment, healthy food and drinks for sale and health and safety experts available to answer questions.” “We have invited a large number of government departments and community organisations to take part and  the response has been outstanding. This will be a great day out for the whole family and there will be lots to do – you can have a short Bowen therapy treatment, have a massage, see an optometrist, as well as enjoying lunch with gourmet teas and coffees.” “We have almost 60 different display stands on a whole range of topics including rural allied health, child health, skin care, cancer prevention and diabetes. Hospice Supporters Looking Rather Bold’N’Brassy

Tickets are selling fast for this weekends’ Sing ‘N’ Swing to benefit the Toowoomba Hospice. Come hear the music play this weekend with the Toowoomba Municipal Brass Band, The Accidentals vocal ensemble and The Toowoomba School of Dance! Promotions and Fundraising Manager Mr Mark Munro, says  this year’s fundraising concert will be staged at the University of Southern Queensland’s Arts Theatre. You will hear music from Irving Berlin, Mercer & Mancini to Spencer Williams. “So if you enjoy the sounds of big brass, vibrant vocals and dynamic dance based on the music of the rich swing era this is one concert not to be missed!” (Back – L to R:) Alan Skerman Scott McKenzie and Elizabeth Crook (front far right) from the Toowoomba Municipal Band are all 'Brassed' up whilst The Accidentals Vocal Ensemble (Front – L to R:) Nicole Browning and Vicki Bravery get a little 'Bold' with Mike Escobar (front middle) for this weekends' Sing N Swing Money raised will go to Toowoomba Hospice located in O’Quinn street to help continue the professional palliative care service for the terminally ill on the Darling Downs and Lockyer Valley. Mr Munro acknowledged the wonderful commitment from everyone who has helped to put this years Sing ‘N’ Swing together “Its a huge commitment and I know the band and choir have been rehearsing since the beginning of the year and it will be a “Bold’N”Brassy show!” Sing’N’Swing will be held at the University of Southern Queensland’s Arts Theatre on Friday March 25th at 7.30pm; Saturday March 26th at 2pm and on Sunday March 27th at 2pm.
