Free Breast Cancer Screening Returning to Dalby

The free breast cancer screening service provided by BreastScreen Queensland Toowoomba Service is returning to Dalby on its two-yearly visit. The Service will be located at the Dalby Hospital, and will offer free breast cancer screening from 7 March to 12 May 2011. “Research has shown that breast cancer screening is the most effective way of detecting early breast cancer, even before it can be felt,” says Dr Christine Harget-White, Director of BreastScreen Queensland Toowoomba Service. “Identifying breast cancer at an early stage gives women the best possible chance of successful treatment.” “We recognise that health services are usually difficult to access in rural areas, and as such we encourage women to attend the Mobile Breast Cancer Screening Service when it is in Dalby,” said Miss Jessica Hobbs, Health Promotion Officer at the Service. “It is especially important for women in the 50 to 69 year age group to have a breastscreen every two years,” she emphasised, “but all women 40 and over with no signs or symptoms of breast cancer are also eligible to participate in the free Program.” BreastScreen Queensland Toowoomba Service has provided a high-quality breast cancer screening service for women in southern Queensland for over 19 years. FREE breastscreen appointments can be made by phoning 13 20 50. Continue reading

It Only Takes One Mnute

Federal LNP Member for Maranoa Bruce Scott is encouraging people across Maranoa to take one minute on Thursday, November 11 to pay tribute to Australia’s fallen servicemen and women. Mr Scott says Remembrance Day is an important opportunity to remember what our nation has sacrificed for democracy. “If the nation can stop to watch the Melbourne Cup, then we can certainly stop for one minute’s silence at 11 am on November 11 to remember those brave Australian men and women who have fought and died for the freedoms we so often take for granted,” Mr Scott said. “We must also spare a thought for our brave diggers who are currently overseas, serving in peacekeeping roles, and helping to bring democracy to other nations.” Mr Scott is also encouraging people to wear a red poppy on Remembrance Day, as a silent tribute to our past and present diggers. Hospice Launches “Challenge”

The Toowoomba Hospice has officially launched the Annual Darling Downs Free Dress Challenge for 2010! At the Launch, Hospice Chairman Mr Graham Barron OAM encouraged all businesses, clubs, organisations and schools to have a free dress day during the months of May and June to raise funds for the Toowoomba Hospice, “these funds will assist the daily operations of this important community facility providing palliative and respite care for all ages” The organisers of the Challenge have taken a slightly different angle this year with running the Challenge over a two month period instead of one week  Mr. Barron said “This gives the businesses, clubs, organisations and schools a wider time frame to hold their free dress day.  We would like to raise at least $5000 from this fundraiser.” A Digital Camera, DVD Player and Photographic Portraits are up for grabs for whoever raises the most money. To make it fair for all, especially the ones with a smaller number of participants, the organisers will divide the total money raised to obtain an average per person. L to R – Grant Reid, Kristy Jackson, Charlie Voss & Andrew McLintock from Downs Financial Services joined Mark Munro from the Toowoomba Hospice at the Launch of the Darling Downs Free Dress Challenge.
