Pittsworth Health Expo Delivers Many and Varied Health Messages
Everything from healthy school lunches to home safety will be covered in the Pittsworth Health and Wellbeing Expo on April 14 from 9am to 4pm at the Pittsworth Town Hall. There will be a wide range of displays at the expo including health service providers, sports, craft and beauty services. Community and Health Promotion Nurse Helen Blanch said the Millmerran Health Service would host the biennial event. “We will have a vast range of interactive displays, some entertainment, healthy food and drinks for sale and health and safety experts available to answer questions.” “We have invited a large number of government departments and community organisations to take part and the response has been outstanding. This will be a great day out for the whole family and there will be lots to do – you can have a short Bowen therapy treatment, have a massage, see an optometrist, as well as enjoying lunch with gourmet teas and coffees.” “We have almost 60 different display stands on a whole range of topics including rural allied health, child health, skin care, cancer prevention and diabetes. Call for Volunteers to Clean Up Myall Creek Saturday 5th February
A working bee is being organised to clean up flood debris along Myall Creek in Dalby this Saturday. The effects of the December and last month’s floods is evident with a high amount of rubbish and debris cluttering the creek. That’s just part of the clean up task facing Western Downs Regional Council and Condamine Alliance and they are calling for help this Saturday. Spokesperson for Environment and Health, Councillor George Moore said the majority of the debris is along the creek line that runs through the centre of town. “There’s quite a lot of flood debris and rubbish entwined through creek bank trees and amongst vegetation as well, strewn across nearby green spaces and parkland and we’d appreciate any help from people who wish to volunteer their time,” he said. Residents who can help out are encouraged to contact the Council on 4672 1172, or volunteers can turn up on the day. You should bring sturdy gloves and a rake, wear enclosed shoes, hat, sunscreen and insect repellent. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Rotunda on Jimbour Street at 9am on Saturday, 5th February. Rally Cars, Concept Cars and Hot Rods Make for a Car Lover’s Day
The past, present and future of cutting edge cars will be on display in a car lover’s heaven at the Transport and Main Roads Heritage Centre this weekend. The second of the four weekend open days planned for the international exhibition Industrial Desire: Detroit Concept Cars. This American exhibition features concept car models, drawings and film footage. It is a unique opportunity to sneak a peek at the highly secretive and competitive world of car design and witness concept cars that are not normally seen outside of the industry. Various car clubs from South East Queensland will be in attendance showcasing the role they play in preserving our transport history. This weekend’s participants include the Toowoomba VW Car Club and Top of the Range Street Machines. Special guest for the day is Skelta Racing with the performance vehicle that achieved great success at Targa Tasmania in May. After seeing the exciting concepts on display, take the opportunity to talk with like-minded enthusiasts over a BBQ hosted by Rotary Club of Toowoomba City. The Transport and Main Roads Heritage Centre, located near the airport terminal on Mutze Street, is a hidden gem in Toowoomba with an engaging representation of the skill and dedication that goes in to connecting Queensland - from early pioneering days to current road building technologies. Also not to be missed is the upcoming presentation on Thursday 28 October by Professor Bryon Fitzpatrick formerly of the College of Creative Studies, Detroit, Michigan. The presentation provides a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for everyday drivers and car dreamers to see the secrets and skills of the highly competitive field of concept car designers. Only the 10am session has seating available. Booking is essential. Industrial Desire is presented by Transport and Main Roads Heritage Centre through artisans in partnership with the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, and toured by Museum and Gallery Services Queensland. Open this Sunday, 24 October from 10 – 2pm. Two other weekend open days have been planned for Saturday 6 November and Saturday 27 November. The centre is open Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm. Millmerran Health & Wellbeing Expo 20th May
The Health and Wellbeing Expo is looking good with over 60 stalls which is a record for all expos we have held so far. We have some different exhibitors this year… life mentors, lavender, soaps, jewellery, relaxation and meditation classes, and the usual aged care services and children’s play groups.
